The Becklyn History

December 1988, Julie McKenzie was approached by a small Eastwood Out of School Hours (OSHC) Centre to administer a brand new child care centre that looked after 10 children in the morning and 20 children in the afternoon.

That same Centre today, has over 50 children attending in the morning session and 110 in the afternoon. Over the same time period, the School only increased by about 150 children, from 550 to 700.

It is now rapidly approaching  20 years since those early days, and Becklyn is now administering some 22 child care centres on behalf of their respective Parent Management Committees.

These 22 centres are currently located in the North Western suburbs of Sydney, ranging from Greenwich near North Sydney, French’s Forest on the northern beaches, Hornsby in the North, and Matthew Pearce at Baulkham Hills in the west.

Specialising in ONLY OSHC, sometimes called Before and After School Care (BASC), Centres administration, Becklyn gradually increased the number of Centres almost entirely by word of mouth with a member of one school recommending the organisation to another.

Becklyn now employees some 9 excellent staff  along with the Directors, Doug and Julie.

Becklyn has written, and had Federal Government approved, its own OSHC software. This suite of programs has recently been completely rewritten using all the modern software tools including Visual DataFlex (programming language), Microsoft SQL (database) and Crystal Reports (report writer).

Expansion plans include a base in Canberra to service the ACT market place and Maroochydore to cover the North Brisbane and Sunshine Coast schools.
