The Becklyn History

The Becklyn History
Becklyn P/L has been in operation for over twenty years. In this time they have experienced rapid expansion and gained invaluable knowledge of the OSHC industry.  Read how it all began..

In December 1988, Julie McKenzie was approached by a small Eastwood Out of School Hours (OSHC) Centre to administer a brand new child care centre that looked after 10 children in the morning and 20 children in the  afternoon.

That  same Centre today, has over 50 children attending in the morning sessions and 110 in the afternoon. Over the same time period, the School increased by  about 150 children, from 550 to 700.

It  has been over 20 years since those early days, and Becklyn is now administering some 20 child care centres on behalf of their respective Parent Management Committees.

These 20 centres are located across Sydney from Sylvania in Sydney’s South to Bondi Beach in the Eastern Suburbs, Hornsby in the North, and St Mary’s Rydalmere in the West.

Specialising in the administration of Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) only, sometimes called Before and After School Care (BASC), Becklyn gradually increased the number of Centres almost entirely by word of mouth with a member of one school recommending the organisation to another.

Becklyn now has an excellent team along with the Directors, Doug and Julie.

Becklyn has written its own OSHC software which is Federal Government approved. This suite of programs has recently been completely rewritten using all the modern software tools including Visual DataFlex (programming language), Microsoft SQL  (database) and Crystal Reports (report writer).

Expansion plans include a base in Canberra to service the ACT market place and Maroochydore to cover the North Brisbane and Sunshine Coast schools.
